Mental Health Strategies Earn State Award for Making a Difference
Start the conversation. Break the stigma!
Healthy RC's mental health strategies were recently honored with a statewide award for innovation in improving quality of life. Rancho Cucamonga was one of twelve California cities to receive a Helen Putnam Award for Excellence by the League of California Cities. The City won in the category of Health and Wellness for demonstrating collaboration through cross-sector partners to carry out programs that make an impact in health and wellness.
Mental health is a community health priority that affects one in four individuals in the country. The City is taking a comprehensive approach regarding prevention and treatment of mental health issues by tackling their root causes. Some strategies include destimagtizing mental health through community conversations and the Your Mind Matters mental health campaign.
The Mental Health Subcommittee executes strategies, like the digital and print campaign for Your Mind Matters, to meet the needs of our community. The Subcommittee also creates quarterly Mental Health Symposiums, which serve as a safe space for residents to have conversations about topics such as anxiety, depression, suicide prevention, and bullying with mental health professionals and organizations. Residents learn they are not alone in their struggles and that finding access to culturally appropriate services is only a phone call away. Residents are encouraged to visit HealthyRC.com for more information.
